Questions for Anyone Who Has Used Gift Wizard by Genesis

I am considering using Gift Wizard for our shop, but I have a few questions before I purchase it. We are a small store that will typically sell between 5 - 10 cards a month. We need to be able to present our customers with multiple custom gift card templates (Christmas, Mother’s Day, Just Thinking of You, etc.). We also need our customers to be able to have the purchased gift card be automatically sent to the intended recipient, either immediately or on a specified date. If you use/have used Gift Wizard and can answer any of my questions, I would greatly appreciate it!

  1. In the Basic plan, what are “Enhanced Gift Cards”?
  2. Do “Enhanced Gift Cards” include multiple design options for Gift Card templates – meaning the customer can pick from different designs?
  3. What is the difference between “Enhanced Gift Cards” and the “Branded Gift Cards” in the Small Business plan?
  4. What is the “eGift Service” offered through the Small Business plan?
  5. If we purchase the Basic plan, but end up going over the 20 gifts/month maximum in a given month, what happens?

Thanks!

Hi, there!

Anders from the Shopify Social Care team here. Hope you're doing well!

While I'm personally not the most familiar with Gift Wizard, it does look like the developers themselves have listed a few of their support contact information on the app description page! You can contact them by email (support@giftwizard.coor by phone: +1 646 8786419. Their website also has a contact form: https://www.giftwizard.co/home/

But I'm sure our community should have some feedback for you, as well!

Thanks for your response, Anders. I contacted Gift Wizard by email prior to posting this topic, but haven't heard back from them. I thought I would give the forums a try, too!

Multi-column section with mixed content types? by Garry Ercoli

Hello everyone!

Does anyone know if there is a way to have a section on a page that can have multiple types of content with customizable titles/text/buttons? My client has specifically said that he would like to have a 3-column section with two being blog posts (of his choosing, not most recent or automated in any way) and one section being a "callout" to his shop -- though he may change that at some point to another type of content. Thus far, I've only really seen sections for item collections or blog posts, but not mixed content types. If I've overlooked something, please let me know!

https://imgur.com/a/mQlljJi

I've attached an image that gives a general idea of what I'm talking about. He has specifically said that he wants to be able to manually choose what he wants to put there (as he will be changing it often) and he has no working knowledge of HTML/CSS so a custom HTML block won't work for him.

Sorry if this sounds like a silly/simple question, I'm a php/node developer and this is my first go at the Shopify platform, so I'm used to code, not drag-and-drop development. I'm open to any options, so long as he can customize this content fairly easily in the future without the need to hire someone to change a link/image. He's also using the "Venue" theme if that matters.

Thank you very much! If I've left anything out, please feel to let me know!

"Big Screen" Live Dashboard App by Greg Ayres

Hi,

Has anyone got any ideas for some kind of live fullscreen type app with live store info (sales, orders, number of open orders etc) to run constantly on a big monitor in such a way it can be seen at a glance from anywhere in the office?   It would be super cool if there was a popup for 30 seconds or so for new orders, perhaps with a sound alert.

Would be really good for our use case and doesn't seem too technical.  Best I can find so far is Databox but that's $59 per month for anything faster than daily updates (and even then it's only an hourly refresh!).

Omnisend offers this, but overall MailChimp is better. I use Omnisend only for this functionality and MailChimp for all else. I really hope MailChimp adds it. It's too fragile to use plugins and imports/exports for a critical conversion flow like this.

Hey Greg!

Actually Shopify built a framework for such a thing. Here is a demo. Is it something that looks good for you? Any other examples apart of Databox which you like?

As I see Shopify dashboards (Overview dashboard, Live View, different Reports) are really powerful and organized in a similar manner, so you can probably open them on a big screen. I'm curious why it's not enough for you and whether there are good reasons to have a separate page optimized for fullscreen view.

We build Shopify apps and looking for problems to solve now. Your post grabbed my attention, personally I like any kind of visualizations :)

Track users going to my Shopify store, and notification of their purchases by Diego Femenias

I am developing a paid courses website.  Now I want to sell physical items and conference tickets on my Shopify store.  I need to track or be automatically notified when a user purchases one of those items on my Shopify store, so I can send the book by mail or reserve a seat on the conference.

I checked with ORDER API (https://help.shopify.com/api/reference/orders/order) but I am not sure if that is the correct way to ensure this flow below works as it should.

1) Mike logs into my current system (and I already can identify mike using his email)

2) He clicks on a link or button and goes to my Shopify store.

3) There he sees a book to buy (this book is a Buy Button from Shopify), that has an ID of 1234 in Shopify.

3) Mike adds to cart of purchases this book

4) Shopify automatically notifies my system that mike@something.com purchased the item 1234 that costs $25.

It is very important for me that Shopify notifies my system automatically of this purchase.  Is there any way to do this.  I mean, I need something similar to what Paypal does with an IPN.  They can hit a URL with a JSON with all the payment details.  Does Shopify has something similar but of course, for purchases made on my store?

I will not show my store products on my website.  I will just have a link to my Shopify store.

hey Diego,

yup, you can do this easily. just create a webhook for topic "orders/create" and point it to a URL of your choosing. it will arrive JSON, and you can do whatever you want with it.

Is there any way to force my users to use the same email they use on my current system?  Or at least suggest my current system email when they enter an email on Shopify?

I need something like this:

1) the link on my website is like diegosstore.myshopify.com/email?mike@something.com

2) Mike does the checkout process and is forced or suggested with that email when entering email address

Because many users may use on error one email on my system and a different one when doing the checkout, and then the "ipn style" notification will not match.

Hi Alex,

We also have a need for this.  We support two brands from our store, and I would like to have one brand linked to their specific FB and Instagram, then the other brand linked to their own FB and Instagram.  These brands do not mind being sold next to each other, but they can't be marketed to the same audience.  Please escalate this feature, thanks!

Hi Sergey,

Thanks for your response!

I agree the Shopify dashboard is good, but the Dashing demo (which I'd never seen) looks much better and the kind of thing we are looking for.

Firstly the actual presentation is far more appropriate for viewing at a glance from across a room but also I like the customisability.  For example, nearly all of our orders currrently are either imported from channels (eBay, Amazon, Etsy) and we are now opening a shop, so POS sales figures are far more important to me than, say, abandoned carts.

Secondly, dashboard only shows one time period at a time, whereas I'd like to see today and MTD and probably YTD all in one view.  We also work to a monthly target, so progress towards that would be cool.

The last thing which would be really awesome would be popup notifications.  I could invisage a sound alert of some kind (e.g ker-ching!) for orders or other events.

I suppose if I was going really nuts, it would be good to pull data from other sources (things like Paypal balance, P&L from Xero, Unread emails in customer service inbox and/or pending ZenDesk tickets etc).

I guess the whole idea is to have one screen which anyone can look at out of the corner of their eye and see how we're doing and what needs to be done at a glance.

My idea was to run this on an old TV and a NUC, Raspberry Pi, Amazon TV Stick or something else with a basic browser, although I guess it would be just as easy for some people to use a second monitor on their main machine.

I should say I haven't got a mega budget for this (thus rejecting Databox) but I'd be happy to work with you on something like this, test it etc and would certainly pay a reasonable monthly fee for it.  If Dashing already exists, would this be a good starting point for an app? Personally, I think the interface is perfect.

Greg.

Hey Greg,

I get your idea with all mentioned details. Would be great to connect and learn more about each other. Definitely there is a chance of working together on this. First, it's interesting for me to learn more about your business and understand who is a target audience of such an app.

Can you send me an email to myfirstname@asoft.co?

Thanks.
Sergey

Hey, Andres!

My name is Alex, I'm a guru here at Shopify!

I see, and I'm sorry to hear that! I've been to your website and can't see that widget at all; it's likely that the error you're seeing is preventing it from displaying. As that's a third party app, I'm afraid I couldn't shed more light on the error code you're seeing; since we didn't create that app ourselves, we're not the experts in troubleshooting it.

What I'd suggest is reaching out to that apps' developer directly with that hash code - you can contact them by clicking on the 'get support' button on their page in the app store, or directly via email at hello@asaplabs.io!

Hope that's helped! Please feel free to let me know, and you can always give us a call or start a live chat at any time. We're open 24/7 for your convenience and always happy to assist!

Cheers,

Alex | Shopify Guru

How can I make a recurring application charge free? by Hallie Gray

Hey all, there are a few people I would like to give a free copy of my app.  I have found that submitting a new Recurring Application Charge for their shop doesn't let me set a price of $0 - the closest I can get is $0.01/month.  Is there a way to change someone's billing so that they get the app for $0/month?

Thanks!

Hi Hallie,

We discussed this with the Shopify devs at Unite. That was over two years ago.

They seemed surprised that it was not possible to add a no-cost payment plan and thought it would it be easy to fix.

The alternative is to bypass the payment completely if you have a free plan or you could use a price of $0.01 and a free trial of about 2 years.

I was sure the last time I checked the lowest possible price was $1.00 though.

Messenger channel only redirects to Shopify website by Jay

I have the Messenger and FB channels activated for my store, and users can successfully view my single product within Messenger.  However, when they try to tap View details or Buy now, Messenger simply redirects to my Shopify website rather than beginning the in-channel checkout flow.

In contrast, my Facebook channel is working great.  Users can checkout in my FB shop -- but not within Messenger.

I've read all the Messenger+Shopify docs I can find, and I can't figure out how to get that flow working.  What might I be missing?

Thanks in advance for any ideas!
