Trying to find the right solution for a unique product type (Build a gift basket) by Corbin Jensen

Hello There, 

I am looking for solutions, perferably on the shopify platform to do this product: 

Step 1 the client chooses their size of gift basket, 8 items or 12 items.  the basket is a set price.

Step 2 the client look through a list of 30 products and can choose up to 8 or 12 to go into their basket. 

Step 3 is the client writes a personal message. 

Step 4 is Checkout. 

I tried the product builder app from bold apps LINK 

But my client feels it is too bulky , we don’t need a step for each product selection. 

Now we are looking into different options for choosing products to go into a fixed price gift basket. 

Any suggestions would be amazing
