As ecommerce grows, so does competition. So chances are, the business you own isn't the only one in your industry or niche.
Social media users are inundated with messages from hundreds of companies a day. So how do you know when your social efforts are working? And how can you gauge the relative strength of your efforts compared to your competition?
At SumAll, we've been working on cracking this problem for ecommerce companies looking to boost their social media efforts. One way we've done this is by introducing Twitter Search, a data visualization tool that allows users to track the number of times your hashtag or phrase was tweeted, and will also point you to the top 10 users tweeting about you.
Let's make it a bit more concrete. If you run a webstore that sells drink koozies (like our friends at Freaker) and there’s a competing koozie company on Twitter, you’ll have a good grasp on their Twitter influence by using Twitter Search and seeing how much they’re getting talked about.
Or take the example of Rogue Ales and Deschutes Brewery, two micro-breweries from Oregon (my home state). Using Twitter search, Rogue Ales could keep a running count of the number of mentions for "rogueales" and "deschutesbeers." I just pulled the data, and here's what it looks like over a one-week period:
Having this information will help the marketing team at Rogue Ales have a better idea of what they need to accomplish in order to stay ahead of the curve.
