we just release our app GiveawayHero as beta on the Shopify App Store: https://apps.shopify.com/giveawayhero
Inspired by how Harrys, a men's grooming brand, collected 100,000 email addresses before they even launched their shop we build GiveawayHero a marketing app for Shopify. (Read their story here: http://fourhourworkweek.com/2014/07/21/harrys-prelaunchr-email/)
This is how it works:
Step 1:
Setup your giveaway campaign in less then 2 minutes. You set up one or multiple milestones to reach. Users reach milestones by referring other users to your shop. Once they reach a milestone, they get a giveaway (in the form of a coupon code).
E.g.
For 1 referred friend, user gets a free shipping coupon code
For 5 referred friends, user gets a 20% discount coupon code
For 15 referred friends, user gets a 40$ discount coupon code
Step 2:
We send your current customers a link to participate. You can also share a link to your campaign with friends and followers on social media.

Step 3:
Users are incentivized to share your campaign virally to earn giveaways, and you collect new email addresses and drive visitors to your store. People who click on referral links, will get to a page that looks like this:
To incentivize referred friends to sign up, they also get a little giveaway, eg. free shipping for the next order.
While in beta we hope to build a close relationship with the first couple of users of our app. We will listen very carefully to what features you request, and make sure we build something that store owners find useful.
The first 20 stores who sign up, will automatically get a free lifetime account, which means we will never charge you a dime. Ever.
