I'm having the same problem. To get around it, I had to create an "Expense" account in Xero. I called it "Shopify payment processor fees." Once I created the "Expense" account, I could select it and link it up. But, this is the wrong type of account for this type of transaction. I think payment processing fees should go to a "Direct Cost" account rather than an "Expense" account. Shopify will not let me select the existing "Direct Cost" account I already had set up for payment processing fees. This must be an error. If not, Shopify please let us know why we can not select our "Direct Cost" accounts. It really bothers me when I'm looking at my income statement to see payment processing fees in the wrong place. Please fix, Shopify. Thank you.
