I am thinking about building a Shopify app in the near future based on the ProductWidgets engine.
It would give store owners the possibility to create widgets with products from their store (like the ones in the slider on top of http://www.productwidgets.com/).
The products in these widgets would be rotated automatically, stats about views and clicks would be tracked and eventually only the products that gather the most clicks would be displayed.
I could imagine two scenarios where these widgets could be useful:
- Affiliate marketing
Instead of having to create banners yourself, your affiliates could easily create widgets (based on the categories of your store and/or keywords) to promote your products.
The widgets would be self-optimizing and always show current products from your store, even if you delete products or add new ones.
- Promotion
Store owners could create the widgets themselves and use them to promote their stores on other websites, Facebook, Twitter etc.
My questions to you:
- If there was a ProductWidgets app for Shopify, would you be interested in using it?
- If so, what would be a fair monthly price you would be willing to pay?
- What other scenarios could you imagine where the widgets would be useful?
