I would love to switch to Shopify POS as well, but for the same reasons as the above posts, we are holding back. If Shopify is going to create a POS system for the brick and mortar, they need to compare their POS with the existing ones out there. We are currently using MS RMS. A true POS system should have....
- inventory management - purchase orders, supplier costs, barcode label printing based on receiving shipment
- employee management - time clock, security / permission settings
- payment gateway 3rd party - its available for ecommerce but not brick and mortar POS (does that sound odd?) yes, I understand you can use an external terminal... but that's not an elegant solution and has double entry issues.
- returns and exchanges - that's just weird
At this point, Shopify POS seems like Shopify ecommerce without having to enter a customer info. I think there is a huge potential in web based POS system that can integrate with eCommerce. I don't think Shopify POS is a true POS system yet.
