Thanks for the suggestion.  I'm still not quite clear how that would work though (I'd love it if it could though!).  Do you mean that if FreeGeo were to go down, we register a domain with MaxMind temporarily until FreeGeo gets back up again, and flip all the settings to 'look at' MaxMind instead?
