Shopify apps do all sorts of things, from making common tasks easier, to adding completely new features. Some free apps made by Shopify that add additional features:

  Adds the ability to publish your products to your Facebook Page.

  Adds the ability to sell digital products.
• Order Printer
  Adds the ability to print customizable invoices and packing slips.
• Grapevine Reviews
  Adds the ability to receive reviews on your products.

The best way to know what apps do is to try some for yourself! There are lots of free apps to start with, and most apps that you need to pay for have a free trial.
